Author Spotlight: Paul Kane

The second of our “Author Spotlight” series. This month we are featuring contributors to Cycatrix Press’s forthcoming anthology, A Dark Phantastique.

Paul Kane gives us the lead story, “Michael the Monster”:

A Darke Phantastique“It was a time of monsters.
A time, leading up to a day, a whole night of monsters. For them to be free, to roam the streets openly. And there they were: the skeletons; demons; zombies; werewolves; vampires; ghosts and ghouls. All manner of monsters represented, every conceivable species taking to the streets…”

In the notes accompanying the story, Kane explains:

“What better time for a monster to hide in plain sight than at Halloween—when humans are disguising themselves as monsters? And there’s a sadness about that I think, from both sides of the fence. This one definitely has elements of Frankenstein, Bradbury’s “The Homecoming,” Clive Barker’s Cabal, Stephen Gallagher’s Chimera, but is also my nod towards those genetic-experiment monster movies I love such as Species, The Fly II, and Splice.”
